After setting up strong momentum, Dr Stone Science Future Episode 6 suffers from a bit of setup. All of the characters are in place for the next big narrative push, but “Science Is Elegant” also introduces a new, seemingly central character into the mix. But while the episode as a whole lacks the same energy as previous entries, it makes up for it a significant, final reveal that jettisons the story into new, shocking places.

It’s the calm before the storm. Senku (Yûsuke Kobayashi) and his team continue transforming their ship into an aircraft carrier to defend themselves from Xeno (Kenji Nojima) and Snider (Kōji Yusa). Gen (Kengo Kawanishi) remains in Xeno’s fortress, where he learns Snider is on his way to assassinate the Kingdom of Science leader. However, Xeno still believes that the main scientist is “Dr. Taiju,” though Gen’s lie doesn’t quite help when the method of attack is through a sniper. Not even Taiju can defend himself from that, no matter his athleticism.

The new addition to the cast arrives early when Snider makes his way to camp near the Kingdom of Science’s group in Dr Stone Science Future Episode 6. Said addition is the mysterious Luna (Akira Sekine). Closest in age to Senku’s main crew, she’s being used as a spy — a trade-off for Gen infiltrating their camp. She’ll pretend to have run away from Xeno, make her way aboard, and navigate the way until she meets Dr. Taiju. Once she does, she’ll signal Snider, and he’ll pull the trigger.

Luna plays a pivotal part in Dr Stone Science Future Episode 6. 

Luna gets a crash course character introduction that is a bit too rushed, forcing her into the narrative as she’s clearly being set up as someone important. We don’t know anything yet about her backstory or how she came to work with Xeno, but we do know that intelligent men are her type and that the helpless act she puts on is a facade. She’s against killing but is too frightened of Snider to say anything. Her character design is, unsurprisingly, similar to all of the women in the series. But the voice acting adds a level of charm, especially once she meets Senku.

It’s one of the high points of Dr Stone Science Future Episode 6 because it allows us — and his crew — to see a very different version of the character. Essentially, he sees Luna as a means of intel. So he lays on the charm, and the animation leans into it, adding a smooth, sparkly effect that renders him straight out of a shojo.

It’s a hilarious contrast to the version of Senku that we know. And it’s all for the sake of getting intel. The punchline to the joke is even better, though. It seems that Senku is only capable of appearing charming and polite. Because once he goes to ask her questions, they come out just as blunt and to the point as they’d ever be.

Dr. Xeno has more ties to Senku than we realized. 

Francois comes to the rescue, and with Senku’s help, the two manage to create ice cream to try and win over Luna. Xeno may have plenty of scientific, militaristic marvels, but Senku’s team allows for small pleasures, too, that remind the previous petrified of their pre-modern existence. The sequence highlights the team’s innovative nature but also begins to paint a target on Senku’s back. Why would he know so much about science if he isn’t the leader?

But the best moment in Dr Stone Science Future Episode 6 arrives at the very end when Luna mentions a comment that Xeno often makes about science being elegant. The animation highlights Senku’s shock wonderfully before announcing why, which perfectly sets the moment. It’s not just that Xeno and Senku are mirrors of one another, leading their own groups into a built-from-nothing civilization. In their past pre-stone lives, Xeno was Senku’s science mentor. We see a small flashback of child Senku before the episode’s conclusion, promising a deeper dive.
